Biography


Carl Morgan is a jazz guitarist and composer based in Sydney Australia. His early life was spent on the far south coast of New South Wales at Central Tilba. He studied at the Australian National University where he received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance with the Peter and Lena Karmel Award for most outstanding graduate of the School of Music. In 2007 at age nineteen, he was a National Jazz Award finalist and in 2008 a Generations in Jazz finalist. In 2014 he won 1st place in the National Jazz Awards held at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival and in 2018 was a Freedman Jazz Fellowship finalist.

Carl has performed with a wide variety of musicians including international artists Maria Schneider, Chris Potter, Alex Sipiagin, Bob Sheppard, Jim McNeely, Bob Mintzer and Charlie Watts and Australian artists including Barney McAll, Mike Nock, Kristin Berardi, Katie Noonan, James Muller, James Morrison, Mike Rivett, Ben Vanderwal, Alex Boneham, Sam Anning, Scoredatura, Virgil Donati and the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra.

In 2012 Carl released his debut album Stone which can be purchased here. The album features Mike Rivett, Steve Barry, Alex Boneham and Ben Vanderwal.
